Mel Gibson, Selegiline and Poker
You could regard this as the height of superstition and if you thought celebrities didn’t have any, then you are in for some kind of surprise. Now some poker players who are superstitious as well would have probably tried this method to increase brain power. Mel Gibson is very superstitious and he believes that his mind would sharpen if he uses a very smelly ointment that is produced from cow’s brains. He feels that this will help him improve his gaming skills when playing poker with his friends.
This was revealed when Up in The Air author Walter Kim was invited to play a few card games by the movie legend along with his publicist Alan Nierob. This was a card showdown that was to be a part of the U.S magazines Men’s Journal, and even before the hands were dealt, Gibson insisted on using the smelly concoction all over his hands.
Gibson then told Kirn about the weird smelly substance that he used so generously over himself. The thing is called Selegiline and is said to help those who use by cleaning the neurotransmitters. However Neirob did mention that the substance did not help his client as well as his friend win. He even jokingly goes on to say that Gibson is a “loser” and his losses have been a great help especially in helping the publicists kids get through college.
Kirn through his later discoveries and finding found out that the substance Selegiline is used to treat Parkinson’s disease.
