States Legalizing Poker to fill in Economic Void
Pennsylvania has moved ahead from all the other states by legalizing blackjack, poker, slots and other table games. In a bit to gain some of its gamblers money it legalized these games on Thursdays.
The only step that would legalize gambling was the signature of Gov. Ed Rendell. Although he signed on the dotted line passing the law he did mention that he did had a few misgivings about expanding gambling culture. Reasons for his misgivings were that of all the casinos in Pennsylvania 14 of them were authorized by the law that was passed out in 2004 are still running.
The Governor described the bill he passed as “laden with WAMs and pork” which is a direct reference to grants that are equivalent to “walking around money” that most lawmakers often show an inclination to a few favored projects.
He also said, “That not a good way to run a railroad.” Although the law has been passed it will take no more than 6 months for the first ever cards to be dealt. However the state treasury is said to benefit from the millions that it would collect as license fees.
Passing this law is one way for recession hounded state governments to fill in the states treasury.
Indiana is another state that is considering letting a few riverboat casinos from functioning on the Ohio River and Lake Michigan. Ohio voters had the chance to cast their votes in November in favor of casinos in four other cities. The governor of Kentucky is looking at table and slot games as well as racetracks and Chicago is hoping for a new Casino.
