Pennsylvania: Poker Playing now a Reality
Playing poker and even other table games are now a reality in Pennsylvania. The gambling regulators of the state are now asking for funds to pay almost 50 of their employees who are to be especially bought in to oversee the games. Although the job description of the employees will be different and range from potential poker dealers to background license checking as well as counting money on poker tables.
The compliance officers that will be hired will be paid an average salary of $37,000 a year.
The Gaming Control Board has at the moment around 300 people who are employed with them. This however is still not enough for the board to cover the costs especially when it looks at doing more than just introducing poker. Upon their request the gaming board will now have an increase of 10.85 to its annual budget of $3.6 million and this will be around next year.
Gregory Fajt who was the Chairman of the Gaming Control board also told the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier during the week “Table games are going to be much more labor intensive.”
All he was talking about was that unlike the revenues got from slots that is counted through its centralized computer system, the revenue got from poker would be counted now by special employees. Someone will now have to count the money physically and a supervisor will also have to overlook the counting process. They will be assisted by armed personnel who will also escort the employee all the way from the casino flow with the money.
