Robbers Steal 100,000 Euro’s During EPT Tournament
There were four thieves who were armed with machete stole and handguns and stole over 100,000 euro’s during a poker tournament that was held at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Berlin.
The men who were disguised entered into the hotel a little after 2 p.m. during which time the competition was held and then forced its employees to hand over the prize money to them. Guido Busch the spokesman for the Berlin police said over the phone that one of the security guards was wounded slightly and even managed to get one of the robbers to drop a bag, which contained a large part of the prize money. There were seven people who were slightly injured as all of them panicked to get out of the hotel.
Olaf Wagner who is a photographer for Germany’s Build newspaper said, “When I entered, I saw a number of security people struggling with three masked men. One guy stood in the corner stuffing 500 euro notes into his backpack, while a second man pinned down a security man with his machete.”
Wagner continued saying, “An armed robbery in broad daylight in the heart of Berlin, at Germany’s biggest poker tournament. I just couldn’t believe my eyes.”
The prize for the winner of the tournament was 1 million euros. The European Poker Tour website stated that the police were still scrutinizing the situation and it only after narrowing down on the suspects would they make any arrests.
